Relaxing with a DIY Drip Coffee at Laem Charoen Beach in Rayong
While there are quite a few beaches in Rayong, such as the popular Saeng Chan Beach and Moonlight Beach, my favorite has to be Laem Charoen Beach for it’s pop up café scene.
If you know me, I love the beach, and due to personal circumstances, I happen to visit Rayong quite often and while Rayong’s beaches are small, unlike huge tourist-y beaches a la Pattaya or Phuket, the beaches here at Rayong are cozy and (most times) quiet.
So join me for quick little relaxing getaway as we explore the pop-up cafes and enjoy our freshly brewed drip coffee at Laem Charoen Beach!

The Peaceful Laem Charoen Beach, Rayong
Hat (beach) Laem Charoen is only about 5km from the center of Rayong city, you could get here by local Rod Song Thaews which are pickup trucks with 2 rows of seating at the back.
If you can’t find local transport, do like I did and use Grab, the Uber of Thailand, it’s probably more convenient as well. I’m not sponsored by Grab by the way, it’s just that convenient.
Laem Charoen Beach is small in size but the area does have quite a few note worthy seafood restaurants, such as Chercher Seafood which I consider as the best seafood restaurant in Rayong.
However, I would say that Laem Charoen Beach is not suitable for swimming or doing water activities because the waves can be quite rough and the area does not have any infrastructure to support those activities.
Laem Charoen Beach (and other beaches in Rayong) are more meant for relaxing or picnicking.
Laem Charoen’s Pop-up Cafe Scene
Laem Charoen Beach is loved by the locals for its vibrant and relaxing beach-side café scene.
These cafés are built into these cute tiny mobile trailers and I got to say, this idea is genius, I’ve never seen this concept before anywhere else in Thailand.
I will admit there are probably a dozen mobile trailer cafés but they all basically serve the same exact thing just with slight extras and variations, eg. One shop serves Korean-style Egg Sandwiches, and the other serves snacks like French fries and cheese balls.
The coffee, drinks, and seating options are pretty much the same.
iDrip Coffee Lab
I did a little bit of research beforehand and the coffee shop that caught my eye the most was iDrip Coffee Lab because they have a few menu items that are unique compared to the other coffee shops dotted around Laem Charoen.
Firstly, they have these Korean-style egg sandwiches, like the ones with big soft fluffy buns overflowing with velvety scrambled eggs, Egg Drop, if you’re interested in checking them out.
Secondly, they have a Do-It-Yourself drip coffee set! And if you are an insufferable coffee nerd like me, this will make you very excited.
iDrip Coffee Lab’s DIY Drip Coffee by the Beach!
The DIY Drip Coffee Set costs 69 THB for hot and 89 THB if you want it cold, which I think is a steal since you get 2 portions of coffee beans meaning you’ll be able to make yourself 2 drinks.
Of course, the cheap pricing comes at the cost of you having to do everything yourself, from grinding the coffee beans, which is very tiring, as the coffee grinder is not that smooth, to pouring water through the beans.
Don’t worry if you don’t know how to brew your own filter coffee the staff will help teach you.
Also they provide free refills on hot water and filter paper.
This DIY concept is a bit risky as the value is entirely dependent on your competency to brew a tasty cup of drip coffee, and you can’t blame the staff for poor coffee either, since you brewed this yourself.
The coffee came out kind of mild in flavor, I have too much of an ego to admit that I brewed the coffee incorrectly so I’ll just say that maybe the coffee beans weren’t the freshest :)
But taste aside, the fact that I get to brew my own drip coffee while relaxing at the peaceful Laem Charoen beach is well worth the price, it’s a small but memorable experience for sure.
Some of you may think this is a dumb idea, like “I came here to let other people make my coffee, why should I make it myself?”. Well, much like Moo Krata or Korean BBQ, it’s fun.
Don’t be miserable, relax at Laem Charoen beach and proudly enjoy your cup of freshly brewed filter coffee.

Triple O Coffee
Another pop-up café that I visited (this time with my girlfriend) is Triple O Coffee.
This one had the same design and layout as iDrip Coffee Lab and all the other stores. A mini coffee shop trailer setup with a bunch of seats and umbrellas on the beach.
I didn’t try the coffee here, instead I got the Butterfly Pea Lemonade while my girlfriend got the Peach Soda.
Both of these drinks are very tart and refreshing. I especially like the cute little graphic of the triplets as Triple O’s logo, the cutesy aesthetic reminds me of Gimbocha, my favorite tea shop located in Bangkok.
Oh, and if you do go to Triple O, get their French Fries, something about them is just so good to snack on while enjoying the ocean breeze with your toes deep in sand.
