Best Backpacker Hostels in Bangkok for Solo Travelers
Did you know that Bangkok is the most visit country in the world? Nah it’s not, it used to be though, now it’s the second most visit country in the world at around 25 million yearly international visitors. With Bangkok being a tourist hotspot there is no shortage on the number of affordable backpacker hostels and guesthouses on offer, from solo backpackers to group travelers, I’ve compiled a list of some of the best hostels in Bangkok, Thailand.
Even though I've lived in Bangkok for my whole life, I am no stranger to the tourism and hospitality industry. Often times my girlfriend and I like to travel the city as if we are tourists, going around eating at chaotic night markets such as Yaowarat Road’s Chinatown, Bangkok’s epicenter for street food.
During these little weekend excursions we would often book rooms at nearby backpacker hotels to make our travels a little easier, so here are some Bangkok hostel recommendations for you.

Choosing the Right Budget Hostel for You
Bangkok is a huge city with many districts and alleyways, so it’s important to know how to book the right backpacker hostel for your solo traveling needs.
Location
Location is everything when it comes to choosing a backpacker hostel. While Bangkok does have a pretty good public transport system, you still wouldn’t want to trek a few hundred meters in the sweltering Bangkok heat. Some things to look out for location-wise is:
District: Most of the hostels in Bangkok are located in the old part of the city (Khao San, Rattanakosin, Yaowarat), these areas are where the city’s major attractions like Temples and Palaces are located, a lively nightlife scene is also present at Khao San Road.
Transport: If you want easy transportation you’ll need to look for a hostel that is near the BTS (sky train) or MRT (metro). While Taxis and TukTuks are available everywhere, they are not efficient and cost effective for those on a budget.
Amenities
Hostels in Bangkok include all the basic necessities such as toilet paper, towels, and WiFi. Sometimes they’ll even offer a TV in your room. But almost all hostels do NOT include breakfast, which is fine because hello? You’re in Bangkok, the food center of the world, Check out 10 of the most authentic Thai foods you should try here!
Price
Pricing is something to look out for, while all the Bangkok hostels that I’ve listed below are geared towards budget travelers there are some which can be more expensive than others.
All hostels have dorm-style rooms that you’ll share with 4-20 other people, but there are some places that offer private rooms that are more like your traditional hotel rooms but these come at an extra cost, perhaps double or even triple the price of a standard dorm room.
Alright with all the introductory stuff out of the way let’s get to discussing some of Bangkok’s best budget hostels for solo backpackers and travelers!
Luk Hostel
Set in the lively Chinatown district, Luk Hostel is a hip hostel popular with the artsy backpackers amongst us.
Luk Hostel combines slick grey industrial concrete walls with a modern minimalist design. The accommodations range from snug, stylish rooms with ornate tiles and simple wood furniture and finishings, to sleek mixed-gender or female-only dorms with bunk beds, the all important privacy curtain, and a reading light.
All of the rooms at Luk Hostel come with complimentary WiFi plus air conditioning. Lockers are also available for you to store your luggage and belongings.
Complimentary walking tours and workshops such as cooking classes can be arranged. Amenities also include a trendy rooftop bar/restaurant and communal work spaces. Breakfast is also available at an additional charge.
If you are looking for delicious easts, Chinatown (Yaowarat Road) is located just 3 minutes away by foot, this road is a market full of bustling food stalls serving both classic traditional Thai and Chinese foods. Other attractions around the area include the famous Traimit Temple located at the end of Yaowarat Road.
Your closest option for quick public transport is the Hua Lamphong MRT station which is about a 6 minute walk away.
