Chiang Khan River Walk Hotel
The Chiang Khan River Walk Hotel is my top recommendation for accommodations. The rooms are absolutely clean and spotless and with a modern minimal design. Some rooms have a balcony view that gives you a beautiful glimpse of the Mekong River. Honestly it feels like I am staying at a beach rather than a mountainous region. The lobby is also really nice as well. A common theme you’ll find is that a lot of hotel lobbies here have cafes in them.
The staff are all very helpful and friendly and the location is slapped right in the center of Chiang Khan Walking Street, literally as soon as you step out of the hotel you are already there.
I stayed here for 3 nights in a previous family trip and Chiang Khan River Walk Hotel is truly one of THE best places to stay in Chiang Khan Walking Street.

Pros:
Very clean and modern room, some rooms have a beautiful balcony view.
Location is very good, being right in the center of the Walking Street.
Friendly staff that will help you with whatever you need.
Cons:
The walls are thing, can hear noises from neighboring buildings.
What I love about With A View Hotel is that they have a café which serves Thai or Western style breakfasts. Especially the Western breakfast as it is difficult to find anything Western in Chiang Khan.
A big bonus is that the car park is electric car friendly! Who would’ve thought that all the way out here in Loei would be a charging station for electric vehicles?
Although I will say that the rooms are a bit small.
Google Maps Rating: 4.3 / 5
Location: Chiang Khan, Chiang Khan District, Loei 42110
Pros:
Nice café at the bottom floor with Thai and Western style breakfast options.
Car park available along with charging stations for electric cars.
Incredibly friendly staff.
Cons:
Rooms are a bit small.
U Chai Khong Hotel is confusing as it is also known as U Chai Khan Hotel. What’s even more confusing is how are they able to design the rooms to be so modern! I mean the mattresses are something you would find in a luxury hotel.
Same Chiang Khan River Walk, this place is right in the center of the Walking Street, so there is no need to worry about having to walk far.
Another common theme you’ll notice is that the rooms in this area are quite small, that’s not the fault of the hotel but rather it’s because the people here want to preserve the old wooden buildings, as they should.
Google Maps Rating: 4.7 / 5
Location: เชียงคาน 310 ซอย 18 Tambon Chiang Khan, Chiang Khan District, Loei 42110
Pros:
Very clean and modern rooms, You’d almost forget that you are staying in Chiang Khan.
The locations is near the center of the Walking Street.
Thick comfortable mattresses.
Cons:
Lacking a few amenities.
Some rooms can be a bit small.
Suneta Hostel is what you would think of when you imagine vintage romance. The rooms are all made out of wood and are decorated with a variety of vintage paintings that harken back to the romantic innocence of days gone by.
A huge plus is that they offer transfer directly to the Loei Airport (50km away from Chiang Khan Walking Street). So if you are traveling by plane and trying to reach Chiang Khan, this hostel will make it very easy for you.
Google Maps Rating: 4.4 / 5
Location: 166 1 ถนน Chai Kong, Chiang Khan, Chiang Khan District, Loei 42110
Pros:
Airport transfer available.
Charming and romantic vintage-style wooden rooms.
Location is right in the middle of the Walking Street.
Cons:
Walls are not sound proof, can hear noise from neighboring buildings and from the Walking Street.
The Royal Chiang Khan Boutique is an anomaly. While other places are either sticking to the charming vintage themes or providing modern accommodation, This place just does away with all that and goes wild.
The décor is insane, each room is painted a different color, different decorations from different time periods. The hallways have this black and white checkered tile design to them. It’s and explosion of colors and I love it.
Unfortunately that vibrancy comes at a cost, the rooms are a bit too expensive considering the size and the amenities you get.
But if you want a bit of color and fun to contrast all the brown wood then The Royal Chiang Khan Boutique Hotel is certainly quite… Boutique.
Google Maps Rating: 4.2 / 5
Location: 195 หมู่ที่ 2 ถนนชายโขง ระหว่างซอย 15-16, เชียงคาน, Loei 42110
Pros:
Each room has it’s own unique theme and style.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Just a few steps to the Mekong River
Cons:
Parking is at a nearby temple not in the actual hotel itself.
The rooms can be expensive considering the small size.
What is there to do in Chiang Khan?
Chiang Khan is a small town and is located in a remote region that is a bit difficult to get to for regular tourists, so unfortunately there are only a handful of attractions to visit.
Aside from immersing yourself in the culture at the various local workshops and markets, most tourists come here for two things. The Chiang Khan Walking Street and the Chiang Khan Skywalk.
Chiang Khan Walking Street
The Chiang Khan Walking Street is the most popular attraction in the area. An old town road right next to the Mekong river that stretches for 1200 meters decorated with various cafes and shops.
The street really comes alive at 5pm, with local music, street food stalls, and souvenir shops all opening.

Chiang Khan Skywalk
Another popular attraction is the Chiang Khan Skywalk, located about 20km away from the Walking Street. This place is mini temple sat atop one of the many mountains of North-Eastern Thailand. The catch here is that there is a bridge made out of glass overlooking the Mekong River.
Near the parking lot to the Skywalk is also a little park area with various statues and flowers to take photos at. In the same park you will also find a cafe, and a few elephants on show.
From my visit, it appears that the elephants are not properly taken care of and everything looks to be really unethical. I would advise you to avoid this park and head straight to the Skywalk.
