Meat Station - Literal Life Changing Steaks at Bangsaen Beach, Chonburi!

A little inconspicuous roadside restaurant housing the most life changing steaks you’ll ever have.

Who would’ve thought that the BEST steak I’ve ever had in my life would be in a little inconspicuous roadside restaurant along pristine beaches of Bangsaen just an hour away from Bangkok’s city center. Meat Station is indeed a station which you NEED to stop at if you are a meat lover in any way.

I am not kidding guys, I’ve had many steaks in my life but the steaks here at Meat Station is on another level. And it’s a crime that this is just a small restaurant in a little known place in Thailand.

And what is better than dining on a big hunk of juicy steak against the backdrop of Bangsaen Beach?

Steaks Prepared to Perfection

Ain’t that the most beautiful Wagyu Tomahawk you’ve ever seen

Meat Station might look like a quaint little eatery but the passion and expertise shines through. The head chef (who I also assumed was the owner) pays attention to every minute detail. This is noticeable through all the signage and diagrams around the front of the restaurant showcasing the different cuts of the cow.

Upon entering Meat Station I can’t help but be excited to sink my teeth into some meaty steaks, seeing all the various thick cuts of meat on display in those counter style coolers made me feel like a carnivorous caveman!

If you aren’t well versed in the world of steaks you could ask the chef for some guidance and recommendations and he will gladly help you out. The chef is very friendly and you can tell he is immensely dedicated to his craft.

If you are looking for other steakhouses and restaurants in Bangkok then might I recommend you El Toro Steakhouse, a classic Argentinian Churrascaria style steakhouse right across the popular Empshere shopping mall. Or if you prefer something more intimate then I recommend Wild Beef Butcher Shop, a little family run steakhouse serving delicious steaks perfect for date night.

Meat Station’s Menu

meat station menu

Sorry for the pixelated picture, I can’t find a clear picture of the menu…

Meat Station’s Menu is extensive, any and every cut of the cow you can think of is present here. You got Sirloin, Tenderloin, Rib Eye, Picanha, Prime Rib, Tomahawk, even Plank Steaks. The cows are mainly from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and the United Steaks States. With what looks like an emphasis on Australian Wagyu.

You also have different gradings of Beef:

  • USDA Prime, Choice, Select

  • Japanese A1 to A5

You also have the options of Grassfed or Grainfed beef, even dry aging options, each serving is also measured around 200g - 400g.

Aside from Beef you also got Chicken, Lamb, Pork, and Fish, however the focus is definitely the Beef.

You also got sides dishes as well like a scallops, mashed potatoes, fries, and even a fancy cheese board! And some other classic Steakhouse entrees like Burgers and Pasta.

Meat Station’s Pricing and Portion

Meat Station’s pricing, although expensive is worth it and I would say pretty fair for the quality of food you are getting. For steaks, pricing can get anywhere from a budget 400 THB all the way up to 5,000 THB, with the average price of a steak coming at around 1,799 THB such as a 330g Australian Wagyu Ribeye. You can expect side dishes to be around 150 THB++ as well.

Also there is no corkage fee, so you are free to bring your own wines and alcohol!

Meat Station’s pricing is fair and a good value for the portion you are getting.

Golden Thick Cut Steak Fries

You can’t go wrong with fries, thick , thin, curly, waffle, they’re all good

Thick cut, golden, crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy within, that’s the hallmarks of a great Steak Fry and Meat Station in Chonburi does their fries right. They even dust their steak fries with a bit of herbs, fancy.

Served hot and fresh with a side of ketchup and mayo, these guys are real easy to snack on. I mean to be honest, it’s kinda hard to mess up fries, as long as they’re fried and dusted with salt they’re good.

Cheesy and Toasty Quesadilla

meat station cheese quesadilla

What’s better than bread and cheese? So simple yet so good

On a more interesting note, Meat Station Chonburi serves a cheesy quesadilla as part of their appetizer menu. Ooey gooey mozzarella cheese sandwiched between 2 flour tortillas and grilled with a little bit of butter.

Served hot and fresh, a cheese quesadilla may be a very simple and basic dish but honestly it’s great, you’d be surprised at how difficult it is to find a place that serves a quesadilla where the cheese isn’t just a solid room temp glob…

Crunchy and Cheesy Garlic Bread

Another variation of “Bread and Cheese” another simple dish yet still very good

Another simple appetizer is the Cheesy Garlic Bread. Toasted to golden crispy perfection, these little bite sized toasts are more cheesy rather than garlicky, and this is just my personal nitpick, but the thick cut toasted baguette makes it kind of dangerous to eat, the toast is too… toasty.

You know the feeling when you are eating toasted sourdough and the crust is very hard and brittle?

Yeah.

Other than that, the cheesy garlic bread was good, though I would prefer a more pronounced garlic flavor, the cheese overpowers it.

Tender Grilled Ox Tongue

Don’t knock it till you try it, Ox Tongue is truly divine

In my humble opinion there is nothing better in life than a perfectly grilled piece of Ox Tongue. Though it might sound disgusting, trust me when I say that this criminally underrated cut of meat will be the most divine tasting piece of beef you will ever put in your mouth, aside from maybe the highest quality A5 Wagyu…

A nice smokey crust, a tender bouncy interior, juicy and exploding with beefy flavor. Though it may just be an appetizer, Meat Station does a damn good Ox Tongue.

Dip the bitesize chunks into some salt or their special spicy chili paste and your taste buds will be dancing with joy.

Extravagant Australian Tomahawk

This is meant to share, don’t worry I didn’t eat all of this myself (as much as I wanted to)

Alright we’re getting to the main highlight of this meaty feast! The steaks. First up we got a HUMONGOUS serving of Australian Tomahawk steak cooked to a perfectly tender and juicy medium rare, and topped off with a great sear.

The plating on this dish is also spectacular with a ornamental flowers and pinches of sea salt sprinkled all over, complimented with half a lemon so that you may add some acidity to cut through the fattiness of the Tomahawk steak.

meat station steak

That is the most beautifully cooked piece of meat that I have ever seen

The Australian Tomahawk was so incredibly fatty and juicy. It’s even better when the cut is a good one inch thick, maybe even thicker!

Tender, fatty, beefy! While it isn’t “melt in your mouth” it’s still very easy to chew. You can even taste the herbs like the garlic, rosemary, and butter. So not only is the Australian Tomahawk delicious, it’s also mouthwateringly aromatic.

And it’s so fun to just gnaw on the huge bone! Something about the primal urges to just wave a cow’s ribs around while gnawing on its meat. It must be fun to be a caveman.

Perfect Australian Wagyu Picanha

Medium rare is the perfect done-ness to those of you who say it’s raw, please look the other way

Here’s a cut that I don’t regularly eat because I don’t often see it on the menu. The Picanha Steak! The Picanha comes from the upper rump of the cow and some might argue that it’s better than a Ribeye if cooked properly.

A more leaner piece of meat compared to other cuts, so not as juicy or oily in flavor, however that doesn’t detract from the overall taste as you’ll get a much more pronounced beefy flavor from all that muscle and protein.

Picanha is just great. I would recommend this if you want a more meaty and leaner steak. And the sear is just great too, in fact Meat Station’s steaks are all wells seasoned with a nice crust.

Juicy Australian Ribeye

meat station australian ribeye steak

I think this ribeye is like 70% fat, which isn’t a bad thing at all :)

The King of Steaks, the Australian Ribeye! A more fattier and marbled cut of beef compared to the above Picanha, and for those who enjoy a more fatty and buttery flavor to their steaks.

Though I will say that the Ribeye we were served was a littel overcooked, more of a medium-well than a medium rare…

But that doesn’t detract from the overall flavor of the Australian ribeye steak. It’s still flavorful, buttery, fatty, tender, and oh so juicy!

They don’t call the ribeye the “King of Steaks” for no reason, and Meat Station proves that this cut can further cement that title.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Everything was delicious, the steaks were cooked beautifully and seasoned very well.

  • The chef was very friendly and helpful in recommending you a steak

  • The menu is varied with lost of protein options and different cuts of meat as well as side dishes and appetizers

  • Pricing is fair and the portions are pretty filling

Cons

  • Honestly, none…

Overall I highly recommend you dine at Meat Station in Bangsaen Beach, in fact if you are a meat lover then Meat Station is a MUST-VISIT. Everything was delicious and cooked beautifully, the chef was very friendly and helpful. If you don’t eat beef then you also have some other protein options as well. It’s just praises from me which I don’t usually do, I can be a harsh critic sometimes but Meat Station deserves all the praise.
