Mil Toast House - Korea’s Famously Decadent Toast Cafe in Thailand!

mil toast house bakery cafe

Mil Toast House is a cute and cozy little bakery cafe

The famous bakery café straight from Ikseon-dong, South Korea, Mil Toast House has opened it’s first branch in Bangkok, Thailand in Siam Square Soi 3.

Coinciding with Siam Square’s renovation into a trendy walking street, a lot of notable cafes and restaurants are starting to make their appearance here, and Mil Toast House is an anticipated one.

In the first few weeks of their opening the place was so full of people both inside and out waiting in a long queue. So I took the patient route and my partner and I visited a couple of months after opening when all the hype has died down.

As of this blog post, they have opened many other locations across Bangkok, pick on that’s nearest and most convenient for you:

  • The EmQuartier, G Floor

  • Terminal 21 Rama 3, G Floor

  • ICONSIAM, 6th Floor

  • Central Ladprao, 4th Floor

The location that I went to is the Siam Square branch (more details at the end of the post).

The Most Luxurious Bread!

counter at mil bread house coffee staff

The staff here handle the breads and coffee with high attention to detail

Honey Toast, French Toast, Steamed Bread and all the bread/toast-based desserts are a huge favorite amongst many Asian cultures, and even though these baked goods have been around for a long time in Thailand, I haven’t seen anything as fancy or luxuriously presented as this.

When you first enter the café, the whole baking assembly kitchen is on display as you walk down a hallway and upstairs into the seating area. In the center you’ll see counter with coffee machines and Chinese style steaming baskets.

If you are lucky enough to sit at the counter, you’ll see the meticulous craftsmanship as the baristas prepare a cup of coffee. They use mini thongs to pick up a coffee bean, how extra is that???

The interior is all white and light-brown, complimented by warm lighting to give the room a cozy and comforting vibe.

Steamed Bread, Toasts, and More!

mil toast house menu

The menu is quite small but concise with a few types of breads to choose from

The bakery menu is pretty extensive as well, you’ll find all sorts of breads from classic thai style steamed breads with Pandan dipping sauce, to Korean fusion style Honey Toasts.

The bread menu is divided into 3 categories:

Soft Buns - steamed or baked soft breads:

  • Steam Soft Buns with dipping sauces (Marmalade, Pandan Custard, etc…)

  • Chocolate Nutelle Cube Bread

  • Cheese Sausage Jalapeno Bun

  • Ham and Corn Bun

French Toasts - grilled with butter and drizzled with syrups

  • Soufflé French Toast (Plain with Vanilla Ice Cream)

  • Soufflé French Toast with Cheesecake (Blueberry, Strawberry, etc…)

Not Just Bread But Drinks Too!

In addition to bread there are also many types of drinks and coffee beverages for you to try. Don’t expect a coffee menu akin to a coffee shop however, there are only simple drinks like iced/hot coffee, with or without cream, etc…

Just don’t go in their expecting to get a Vanilla Iced Caramel Unicorn Pumpkin Spiced Macchiato is what I’m saying.

On the non-coffee side there are hot/iced teas with citrusy flavors like raspberry or lemon.

But one cannot talk about Mil Toast House’s Korean style toast without mentioning their signature drinks… Milk.

(I’ll explain more down below).

Pricing

Here is where reality strikes hard for me…

You can get a Honey French Toast with ice cream from Bangkok’s insanely popular “After You” dessert café for around 200 THB (or 5.7 USD), and it’s a big size as well, can easily feed 2-3 people.

But Mil Toast House? My friend, you can expect to spend ~350 THB (or 10 USD) per Toast, and the portions… They’re pretty small.

Even the drinks. Oh man, 170 THB (or 4.8 USD) for an Iced Raspberry Tea.

Needless to say, I don’t agree with the price.

Soufflé French Toast + Vanilla Ice Cream

souffle french toast with powdered sugar and melted salted butter

Just look at that melted butter oozing out!

We definitely had to try one of their recommended menus. There was actually so much recommended items to choose from so we decided to go with an item that had a whole page on the menu to itself.

The price of the Soufflé French Toast (Vanilla Ice Cream included) is 365 THB (or 10.45 USD).

The portion was really small for the price… Pricing aside the presentation was really clean and cute.

This item is basically 2 pieces of thick cut bread grilled with butter, sugar, and sprinkled with powdered sugar on top.

I’m pretty sure this is not exactly a French toast, but that’s what it said on the menu.

vanilla ice cream and syrup

A little something extra on the side

The bread was also served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream of course.

And oh my… The vanilla ice cream was absolutely divine, some of the tastiest vanilla ice cream I’ve ever had.

In addition there is also a side of maple syrup in case you wanted to add more sweetness to your toast.

souffle french toast

Would you like a bite?

The toast was really crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside.

The inside was soaked in melted salted butter which gives it a little saltiness to complement the extreme sweetness of the toast.

And when I say soaked, I mean they literally injected a bunch of melted butter into the toast.

The whole thing was incredibly decadent and rich, it tasted incredible, and paired with the vanilla ice cream? Almost feels sinful to eat something this good.

Bangkok’s most famous dessert is undoubtedly the Mango Sticky Rice, if you are looking for Mango Sticky Rice, Yenly Yours is Thailand’s number 1 mango dessert cafe. They Have Banana Milk!

marron milk and banana milk

Mil’s milk comes in cute bottles, be sure to shake them well before drinking

Remember when I said Mil Toast House is also known for their milk?

My partner and I ordered the two milks labelled as recommended:

  • Marron Milk - 150 THB (or 5 USD)

  • Banana Milk - 130 THB (or 4.7 USD)

If you didn’t know (it’s ok I also didn’t know), Marron is just a fancy name for chestnut.

Pro Tip: Shake your milk to properly mix the flavor.

The Marron Milk had a strong chestnut flavor, nutty, sweet, and kind of yam-like.

Now for the Banana Milk… I LOVE Banana Milk, it’s my favorite thing to drink, and fun fact, it originated in South Korea where Mil Toast House is based.

And oh man, Mil’s version of Banana Milk…

Is disappointing.

There was only a hint of Banana fragrance, and it was almost a bit watery tasting to be honest. That might just be my biased opinion because I truly love Banana Milk.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Nice, clean, and modern atmosphere.

  • Damn good bread, like insanely good. Perfect for anyone who likes desserts and bread.

Cons

  • Ridiculously expensive, prepare your wallets.

Overall I would recommend you check out Mil Toast House at least once, it really is an interesting experience to come here and try out their luxurious toasts. The atmosphere is really clean and feels hip and modern. And of course, their bread is immaculate.

The only thing to complain about is the price is incredibly expensive for what it is.
