Nuatair - Best Halal Steak House in Thailand, Affordable 400g Ribeye!

Nuatair - Best Halal Steak House in Thailand, Affordable 400g Ribeye!

Nuatair has a wide array of cuts of beef steaks

Nuatair (เนื้อแท้) is Thai for “Real Meat” which is a bit weird, I mean, shouldn’t all steaks be real meat…? Anyways, Nuatair is an impressive and affordable steak house with multiple locations throughout Thailand, and the best part is that Nuatair is fully Halal!

I was craving for a good hunk of steak one weekend, I was actually thinking about taking a day trip to Khao Yai, the steak capital of Thailand, but I was too lazy to drive for 3 hours, perhaps in the future.

That’s when I discovered Nuatair and headed right to their original location at Nong Chok, the cool thing is that this location is located in a PTT gas station. Steak with a whiff of gasoline? Yes please.

Just kidding, the restaurant is indoors and you don’t smell gasoline.

Nuatair, Halal Steaks, Cheap Price

Who would’ve thought that you’ll find a proper steak house at a local gas station?

That’s right Nuatair is totally Halal, this is because the area around the original location has a large Islamic population.

While the original Nuatair might be located quite a bit away from the Bangkok city center, there are other branches in notable places like Central World and Samyan MitrTown.

Nuatair Menu

Notice the prices, yeah 110 THB for Pad Kaprao is expensive but 120 THB for spaghetti? In Thailand???

The Nuatair menus was surprisingly varied, there were so many different dishes from (of course) steaks, to spaghetti, to classic Thai one plate dishes.

The menu is divided into multiple sections, here are some of the things you can find on the menu:

Appetizers - Meatballs, different types of salads, etc…

Steak

You choose the size of the steaks ranging from 250g - 400g. One thing you will notice is that Nuatiar serves only beef, no chicken or pork steaks here.

  • Tomahawk Steak

  • Ribeye

  • Tenderloin

  • Strip Loin

Spaghetti

  • Bolognese

  • Pink Sauce (?)

  • Carbonara

Rice Dishes - Classic Thai dishes like Pad Kaprao and Fried Rice.

Burgers - Nuatair only has one beef burger option but you can choose the amount of meat from 120g to 360g.

Pricing

As mentioned in the title of this blog post, the pricing at Nuatair is really affordable for this type of cuisine.

The price for the steaks is dependent on the amount and cut but as a reference, the 400g Ribeye that I ordered was ~900 THB. While for Thai food standards that is really expensive but in terms of steaks that is not a bad price at all.

The other dishes, like a carbonara spaghetti, goes for ~100 THB which is good value.

As for the portions, the servings was just the right amount for a single person. Although the spaghetti could be a little bigger.

Nuatair Buffet Menu

The premium dish is a steak by the way.

Nuatair also has a buffet menu at select locations, however you can’t order the buffet while at the store, you’ll need to pre-book via HungryHub (not affiliated).

The buffet menu comes at different tiers, but they all boil down to unlimited servings of steaks and the various other dishes on their menu.

The buffet is also limited to a certain time and certain days.

Simple and Tasty Caesar Salad

Honestly, we just wanted something to balance all the fat and grease of the other dishes

You can’t have a steak dinner (or in this case lunch), without having a starter salad. We went with the classic Caesar Salad, can’t go wrong with that.

Although not a traditional caesar salad, it still tasted quite nice and refreshing, with the lettuce, tomatoes, croutons, and (fake?) bacon bits sprinkled on top.

One downside is that the salad dressing was too watery, not like a pure liquid water consistency, more like a gravy type consistency. The result is that the flavor is quite mild.

Eh… an average but tasty salad, what more can you expect?

Pungent Salted Fish Spaghetti

The portion of the spaghetti is quite small to be fair

Now here is something different and unique, a salted fish spaghetti!

I know that might sound disgusting but hold on. Salted fish is a typical seafood snack in Thailand, they are essentially sun dried fish that has been fried, giving the fish a strong pungent and salty flavor.

Imagine dry sardine that has been fried to a crisp.

This salted fish spaghetti was alright, the salty-ness only came from the fish, the spaghetti noodles themselves were quite smoke-y and pepper-y from the black pepper. The added dried chilies also gave the dish a nice kick.

The portion was quite small however, I could finish this in 4 or 5 bites. Maybe 3.

If you want excellent homemade pasta then I would like to recommend you Ranee’s Velo Restaurant near Khao San Road, the truffle pasta there is to die for, my favorite pasta joint in all of Bangkok.

Large 180g Beef Burger

The waiter asked if I wanted cheese, I thought he meant would I like MORE cheese. Ended up not getting cheese :/

There was a whole page dedicated to this one single burger on the Nuatair menu, so of course we had to try it.

We ordered the medium sized one with 180g of beef. You get the option of with or without cheese that’s a plus for people who are lactose intolerant.

For magnificent burgers, take a look at Beast Burger, although their original location is at Chiang Mai, they opened a branch in Bangkok known as Beast & Butter, located in Thonglor. This Bangkok branch also serves steaks.

The burger was average… Actually it tastes like a McDonald’s cheeseburger. It might be better looking than McDonalds but there is no denying that the taste is very similar.

The burger was also served with this thousand island looking sauce and fries.

If you put the sauce onto the burger then the flavor of the burger will turn into a McDonald’s Big Mac, I’m not kidding.

Overall the burger was average, and actually it might be cheaper than a Big Mac meal at McDonalds.

Flavorful 400g Medium Rare Ribeye Steak

nuatair 400g ribeye steak

This is a substantial piece, the picture just makes it look small

Finally the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the 400g Nuatair Ribeye Steak!

The ordering process was quite detailed, you get to choose what cut of meat you want, what done-ness, what amount, what sides, etc…

I ordered a medium rare (as you should) Ribeye steak with stir fried vegetables and french fries.

A note, normally Nuatair will slice your steak into bite sized pieces for you, if you prefer the steak to be whole like at most steak restaurants, you can ask for them to not slice it like I did.

The waiter said something like by cutting the steak it will bring out the flavor of the meat etc… Which I found doesn’t make much sense, wouldn’t the steak cool down faster as a result?

nuatair ribeye steak

Some might say it’s raw, nah, you’re raw

The steaks aren’t served with any sauce, at that point you know this steak house is the real deal, the only condiments you’ll get is salt and pepper to dip your steak into.

The steak was a nice thick cut, the ribeye was very tender with a little chew, and it was very juicy. It had a little smoke-y flavor as well from the char of the grill (or griddle?).

The fries were nice, but the stir fried vegetables were just broccoli and carrots stir fried in olive oil and black pepper.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Quality steaks and various cuts to choose from.

  • A lot of different dishes to choose from, if you don’t want Western food, Thai food is also available.

  • The prices are affordable and cheap for this type of cuisine, except for the steaks but that’s a given for this quality.

  • Buffets are available on certain days.

Cons

  • Some dishes taste average but nothing special.

  • The Burger tastes like a Big Mac??? I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing…

Overall I recommend you come to Nuatair if you want a delicious Halal steak dinner. You get nice thick cuts of steak like the ones you get at proper steak houses. In addition, Nuatair also has a variety of dishes on their menu, from spaghetti to Pad Kaprao. The prices are also very affordable and I was actually surprised that a plate of spaghetti is only ~100 THB. Plus Nuatair also has a buffet available.

The only downside is that most dishes tastes pretty average, so it’s obvious here that Nuatair’s main focus is their quality cuts of beef.
