Yuan Yuan Man Man - Incredible Vegan Friendly Tofu Ice Cream in Yaowarat!
On the stretches of Bangkok’s Yaowarat Road lies a little ice cream stall called Yuan Yuan Man Man who sells vegan ice cream made from soy milk tofu.
I came across this stall while I was on my Bangkok Chinatown Adventure with my girlfriend where we eat and explore our way through some of the best eats on Yaowarat Road. Yuan Yuan Man Man wasn’t on our itinerary but fate decided for us to stumble upon this little gem.

Vegan Friendly Tofu Based Ice Cream
Yuan Yuan Man Man stands for um… I’m not quire sure actually. I searched on translation websites and the phrase “yuán mǎn” means something along the lines of ‘satisfactory’ or ‘perfect’. So I guess Yuan Yuan Man Man means ‘perfect perfect’.
While I’m not sure about the “perfect” part, I do agree that this soy milk tofu ice cream is very satisfactory.
As previously mentioned, what separates Yuan Yuan Man Man apart from a lot of other ice cream places in Bangkok is that the ice cream here is made from a dairy-free soy milk alternative so that vegans can enjoy a plant-based alternative to one of life’s classic desserts.
It doesn’t stop there, depending on the order, a multitude of toppings are added to the ice cream to give it another dimension of flavor and texture.
As we placed our order, we couldn’t help but be mesmerized by the speed and skill of the staff when they assemble our bowl of soy milk ice cream.
It can be hard to find hidden spots like this if you don’t know how or where to look, I recommend some sort of tour like this Discover the Secret of Chinatown Tour to help you not only discover amazing eats but to learn more about the culture and history of Bangkok’s Chinatown area.
Yuan Yuan Man Man’s Menu
Yuan Yuan Man Man’s menu is small but specialized with only 2 types of ice cream flavors on offer, the already mentioned (multiple times at this point) Soy Milk Ice Cream, and the more classic and traditional Thai Coconut Ice Cream. All Vegan friendly options mind you.
The main difference between the menu items is basically just the topping. You get toppings like:
Black Sesame Bua Loi - A sort of Thai mochi-esque dessert filled with black sesame paste
Grass Jelly - A mildly sweet black jelly
Sesame Soup - A thick syrupy black sesame sauce
Durian Sticky Rice - Durian cream paste with sweet sticky rice
Black Sesame Sticky Rice - Sticky rice infused with black sesame
Pricing
The price is very cheap as well, every menu item is 65 THB. well worth it and the serving size is quite Yuán Mǎn as well, quite satisfying.
Soya Ice Cream With Black Sesame Balls
My girlfriend and I ordered their best seller, the Soy Milk Ice Cream with Black Sesame Bua Loi Balls.
The ice cream toppings comes with the Bua Loi, of course, a sweet brown sugar syrup, and mini fried dough sticks, which are something like mini crunchy Patong-Go or Chinese donuts.
The topping that I really appreciate is the ginger cookie crumble that is sprinkled on top, my girlfriend really loved this, she is a big fan of ginger in general.
The first bite of the soy milk ice cream was very weird, I wasn’t used to tasting tofu in a cold and creamy manner but as I kept eating, the ice cream grew on me.
The Bua Loi was beautiful, soft, chewy, and WARM which contrasts the cold ice cream really well. The black sesame filling is nutty but isn’t strong as you’d might expect, which is a good thing as it is not too overpowering.
I would love to get this again, hopefully they open more branches throughout Bangkok, shame that the only Yuan Yuan Man Man branch is in Yaowarat.
Conclusion
Pros
Really cheap price, great value for great taste.
Being vegan friendly is always a big plus, more people can have the option to try this dessert.
The toppings are what makes the ice cream shine.
Incredibly unique, tasty, and refreshing.
Cons
Only open in the late evening/night, and queues are often long.
Overall I highly recommend you check out Yuan Yuan Man Man, the main draw is obviously the vegan friendly-ness of the soy milk tofu ice cream, but I would argue that the real star of the show is the various toppings that the ice cream comes with. I especially love the black sesame bua loi. Not to mention the pricing of Yuan Yuan Man Man is really cheap as well.
The only downside is that Yuan Yuan Man Man is open from 6PM onwards so there is only a small window for when you will be able to get this delicious treat. Plus whenever it is open there is always a long line of people, no doubt an indicator of Yuan Yuan Man Man’s popularity.
